Youth subcultures often clash with the antagonists in the aspect of adults and teachers who suppose them to have a baneful influence on the psyche of teens. Eyes are the reflector of the heart and feelings of emo people that is why they accentuate them with black eyeliner and black eye shadows. Psychologists affirm that such a non-typical style of looking and dressing up facilitate teenagers express themselves freely.

To add, it's not merely clothes and appearance that discern emo boys and girls from the rest mass of people but especially their psychological state. Emo girls might be rather sensitive and shy. These girls are also wholehearted and rather emotive. Intense feelings of infatuation and susceptibility differ emo boy from other teenagers. However, those openness and susceptibility are very dissimilar feelings from the one citizens have used to. All their feelings are rather pointed, for example, they might get downcast if they don't get reciprocal feeling or approval of those who are around. In this respect medics advise grown-ups and educationalists to share the longing of their children to be a part of some youth subculture or a youth formation and give teens the capability to express themselves freely.
